Bushcraft Basics: Outdoor Skills for Self-Reliance Discover the confidence that comes from knowing you can take care of yourself outdoors. Bushcraft Basics is a hands-on introduction to essential wilderness skills designed for pre-teens, adults, and families who want to deepen their connection to nature and self-reliance. Unlike single-focus classes (such as map and compass or shelter building alone), this comprehensive course introduces a variety of foundational bushcraft and survival skills. Learn practical techniques for navigation, shelter, fire, and resourcefulness in the wild—all while understanding the principles that make these skills reliable in any situation. What to Expect Duration: 2 hours (Optional half-day winter sessions available for more in-depth learning and extended skills practice.) Format: Primarily classroom-based for the season, with a short outdoor session to practice a featured skill—such as setting up a simple tarp shelter or starting a fire with flint and steel. Extended Classes: Half-day sessions dive deeper into topics like map reading, wayfinding, fire building, and outdoor cooking. Audience: Pre-teens & adults (adaptable for families) Location: Indoor classroom with nearby outdoor area for demonstrations Equipment: Projector and screen required (see teaching plan for materials list) Why Take This Class Build a solid foundation in outdoor self-reliance while gaining the knowledge to approach any outdoor adventure with confidence. Whether you’re new to bushcraft or looking to refresh your core skills, this course will prepare you to thrive—not just survive—in the outdoors. Registration is required as space is limited. Additional information with detail is shared by your instructor 3 days before the class. The class is free. If you can no longer attend, please let our team know so we can move to the waitlist.
